Kaizer Jr Gives Latest Khune Update

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr., has provided the latest update on the legendary Amakhosi goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune. The club is interested in involving Khune in a non-playing capacity.

Khune, who was not part of Chiefs’ traveling squad to Turkey, is currently a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Amakhosi. The club had indicated ahead of the 2023/24 season that it would be his last campaign as a player. However, they are keen to retain him in another role.

Despite these plans, Khune seems eager to continue his distinguished career on the pitch. He has maintained his fitness independently throughout the off-season, although a new move has yet to materialize.

Kaizer Motaung Jr. elaborated on the club's intentions to involve Khune in a new role, either around the first team or the junior ranks. More clarity regarding the legend's future is expected in the coming weeks.

“I think as time goes on, we’ll be able to divulge more information, I think from the start of the season,” he said during the launch of Chiefs’ new kits.

“We sat down and spoke; I think he released a statement regarding his playing contract.

“We assessed everything and we’ve sat down with Itu. We see him playing a very, very valuable role within this institution.

“He has contributed tremendously to this institution. He’s a living legend and has a lot to offer, whether it’s to academy players, senior players, or in various roles.

"As the weeks unfold, we will be able to release more information on the next steps with Itu. He is a very important part of this family, this organization, and this team.

“A person who has achieved and stayed at one club like he has, he’s within the fabric of the cloth and everything.

"We are privileged to have someone like him around this team, especially at this crucial time. As time goes on, like I said, we’ll be able to outline the next steps.”

Stay tuned for further updates on Itumeleng Khune's future with Kaizer Chiefs as developments unfold.
